While still a beautiful house, the large 1940’s manor was found to be dated and unsuited to the client’s contemporary and active lifestyle. What started as kitchen renovation quickly became an exercise in liberating the isolated room “boxes” to become a free-flowing interconnected set of active spaces. The connection between inside and outside was formed, improving solar gain and transforming what had previously been an under-utilised back-of-house area to become an outdoor entertainment and reading room. The previous dark kitchen has become a sunny home office/ sitting room. The new Kitchen replaces the dormant Laundry block to become the axis around which dining, living and outdoor spaces come alive.
Quality materials that are modern but in keeping with character of the house, the craftsmanship of Board Design and an inspired but simple design have created a sympathetic but modern insertion that revives this gracious home.
